The Louisiana Military Hall of Fame and Museum was incorporated in 1991. The original members donated their time and resources to acquire, rebuild and fly WWII era aircraft and to collect memorabilia. The original goal, which is now being realized, was to build a museum to honor those veterans from the state of Louisiana.

The Museum controls a 5.5 acre tract and has an extensive collection of displays, artifacts, memorabilia and vintage WWII aircraft.

Phase I – 100’ x 300’ metal building adjacent to the taxiway apron. This building will provide an area to restore military aircraft, tanks, trucks, weapons and other military hardware. It will also serve as a climate controlled storage area, as well as the temporary museum until Phase II is built.  The $1.3 million building is all but paid for, with a note remaining of $200,000, which we are presently trying to raise.

Phase II – Located across the street from Phase I, it will be a Pentagon shaped structure housing The Hall of Fame. Designed so the 4 additional galleries can be added as required. The area around Phase II will serve as outdoor display.

The images you see are conceptual architectural renderings of Phase 2.  The building will be totally green, withstand 150 mph winds and will be 16,000 square feet in size.  It will be a one of a kind building in the world.  You’ll note the glass panels in the reflecting pool.  This is where our Hall of Fame inductees will be recognized.

The focus is on the runway being pulled up, forming the roof of the building, the reflecting pool and an exhibit area under the curve.  The roof appears as a runway from above, is lit and collects rain water which will recycle for the reflecting pool and flushing toilets.

The exhibit area is defined by Air, Land & Sea

Light means everything to this building.  The lights mimic a runway, the glass panels are lit, the texture of the end of the building is lit, visitors can see inside at night, light from the sun creates shadows on the curved runway.  The sun is limited to about 10% on building in the summer but does heat it most of the day in winter.

The area outside is sloped for easy access by people and by tanks, planes etc.  The green is grass, but is a new product of matting and won’t make mud or prohibit moving the exhibit equipment around and is very people friendly.

The outlying area of the building is also people friendly.  The raised areas can be used for seating.  The doors are actually glass hanger doors which when closed provide benches, when open, allow events to welcome hundreds of people.

The museum is a part of the Secretary of State Jay Dardenne’s museum system.  Operating expenses will be provided by that office.
